Muslim Student's Association's Constitution


Article I. Muslim Student's Association
Organization will be distinguished from other Muslim Student Associations across the nation as Georgia State University's MSA.

Article II. Muslim Student's Association's Affiliations
2.1 The Muslim Student's Association will be affiliated with other MSA's around the state of Georgia.
2.2 The Muslim Student's Association will work with other student organizations within the university to inform the student body about Islam, promote events, and help with the awareness of Islam.
2.3The Muslim Student's Association will only be nationally affiliated with MSA national.

Article III. Purpose, Aims and Functions of the Muslim Student's Association
3.1 The Muslim Student's Association is established for the purpose of creating an Islamic atmosphere within the university and enlightening Georgia State University students about Islam.
3.2 The Muslim Student's Association is aimed to inform students who are misled about Islamic beliefs and correctly inform them about Islam and the Muslims' way of life.
3.3 The Muslim Student's Association will function by providing a prayer room, weekly congregations, breaking of fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan, lectures by renowned scholars, social gatherings, Islam Awareness week, and Islamic literature to all Georgia State University students.
3.4 The Muslim Student's Association will provide students with the above based off decisions made by the president and her/his executive board.
3.5 Any suggestions for The Muslim Student's Association will be taken from members only and will only be implemented if the executive board votes in favor of it.

Article IV. Membership requirements of The Muslim Student's Association
4.1 The organization is open to all Georgia State University students.
4.2 Students will be required to submit their email address, student number and contact information in order to be a member of The Muslim Student's Association.
4.3 Members jeopardizing the unity, reputation of the organization, the general body or breaking the rules within Georgia State University's code of conduct will lose their membership privileges.

Article V. Officers (titles, term of office, how and when selected, responsibilities)
5.1 The Muslim Student's Association will select a president through a voting system created by the current executive board of the MSA and will only allow board members to vote for president.
5.2 Candidates for the office of president and treasurer will be required to have been members of Georgia State University's MSA for at least 2 consecutive semesters.
5.3 The current president of The Muslim Student's Association will have the power of removing any possible candidates from elections due to lack of certain attributes, qualities or characteristics that are defined by the current president and executive board.
5.4 The president will serve a maximum of two terms or six semesters.
5.5 The president will have the power of approving her/his own executive board which will consist of 2 co-vice presidents (one male, one female), secretary, treasurer, social events coordinator, dawaa coordinator, historian, jumaa coordinator and halaqa coordinator.
5.6 The president will assign duties to her/his executive board once positions have been filled. Positions will be assigned to each executive board member for overseeing and assignment of duties to each position.
5.7 The president has the power to remove any members of the executive board and the general body with a majority vote from her/his executive board.
5.8 The impeachment of a president will require a formal petition signed by two executive board members and twenty active members of the general body who have been active for at least two semesters.

5.9 The Muslim Student's Association will select a treasurer through appointment by the current executive board of the MSA and will only allow board members to vote for treasurer.

5.10 The Muslim Student’s Association will nominate and vote on positions of Vice Presidents (2), Secretary, Sports Coordinators (2), Ramadan Organizer and Public Relations (2). Any positions not filled will be appointed by the current executive board.

5.11 The Executive board consists of only the Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretary, and Treasurer. Other positions may need to attend board meetings if necessary.
Article VI. Advisor (term of service, how selected)
6.1 An advisor(s) will be nominated by the current advisor or executive board and will be elected by a majority vote from the executive board.
6.2 An advisor will serve a maximum of 2 terms or 6 semesters.
6.3 An advisor can be removed at any time during her/his term through a majority vote by the executive board.

Article VII. Meetings (frequency, special meetings and who calls them)
7.1Executive board
7.1A) Meetings will be held at least once a month.
7.1B) The president will set a time and date of meetings by working with everyone's schedule.
7.1C) The secretary will be required to notify board members of the meeting and follow up on attendance.
7.1D) Executive board members are required to attend meetings unless given permission by the president beforehand.
7.2 General Body
7.2A) Meetings will be held at the discretion of the executive board, with a minimum of two each semester at a designated time and place.
7.2B) General body meetings will consist of all current MSA members who are able to attend
7.2C) All executive board members are required to attend general body meetings unless with the permission of the president.
7.2D) Minutes for all general body meetings will be sent by the secretary to all MSA members electronically.

Article VIII. Quorum (number of members required to transact business)
8.1 Only the president, advisor, and treasurer will have access to the bank accounts and will be able to conduct transactions unless approval is granted by the president. This approval will only be granted to executive board members.
8.2 The executive board will be the only members of The Muslim Student's Association who will receive information about the account and the transactions made.

Article XI. Anti-Hazing Policy
This organization prohibits its members, both individually and collectively from committing any acts of hazing.

Article XII. Organization Agreement
The Muslim Student's Association agrees to abide by the Georgia State Code of Conduct. Furthermore, we agree to abide by all Student Life and Leadership policies as outlined in the student handbook; to check the organization's mailbox regularly; to maintain the website; to communicate via email upon request; to update the organization's records whenever there is a change and submit a re-charter application in the Spring Semester.
